U.S. Sports Film Festival

11.19.2008 | Brand Marketing, Portfolio, Public Relations, Sponsorship Management

This case study shows the relevance of brand, strategic communications, sponsorship and event marketing when building a new sports and entertainment property.

InSiteMarketing was retained to create a new brand and manage all marketing for a first ever film festival dedicated exclusively to sports films.

The annual U.S. Sports Film Festival (Festival) provides new and dynamic sports/entertainment experiences for audiences and simultaneously will become a sports film market analogous to Toronto, Cannes and the AFM for the industry. It integrates a traditional film festival model with unique opportunities to participate in special sports related film events. The Festival is a uniquely positioned event that will entice sports lovers and film enthusiasts from around the world.

Situation
As a first time event the Festival organizers were in need of branding, sponsorship packaging, website development, advertising design, media partner development, strategic communications, and event marketing consultation.  Technically a start up the Festival had very limited resources to brand and market in Philadelphia.

Solution
InSiteMarketing partnered with Festival Organizers and set objectives to grow the brand and promote the Festival in the local and regional Philadelphia market. We recommended focusing efforts on building barter relationships with the established media companies, professional sports teams, and relevant government agencies.

Results (partial list):

  • Created Festival logo and tagline
  • Created Festival sales presentation, executive summary and sponsorship summary
  • Created and manage the Festival website: www.ussportsfilmfestival.com
  • Created all Festival advertising and marketing materials to include (partial list); flyers, email blasts, posters, post cards, tickets, pocket guides, and outdoor signage
  • Developed three television partners to include Comcast SportsNet, Versus, and CN8
  • Developed other media partners to include; KYW and 610WIP radio stations and Philadelphia Weekly newspaper
  • Created $350,000 worth of promotion through media barter agreements
  • Developed seven professional team partners to include the Philadelphia Phillies, Sixers, Eagles, Flyers, Phantoms, Kixx and Soul
  • Managed and activated all media, team and agency partner agreements
  • Coordinated and managed six city and state agencies to include; Philadelphia Film Office, Sports Congress, Convention and Visitors Bureau, Greater Philadelphia Tourism and Marketing, City of Philadelphia, and the State of Pennsylvania
  • Coordinated and managed strategic communications to include press releases, press kit, and media relations

The USSFF was a great event for a first year. There was some really exciting films along with the producers, directors and athletes. The parties were strong and fun. I plan to be there next year. Thanks for all.
